How's work daddy

On the way to preschool this morning, out of the blue, Hanah asked "How's work Dad?" Really?!? Did she really want to know? I then proceeded to tell her about all the things I was doing at work...the marketing, the paperwork, new patients, discharging patients...the slow days, the hectic ones, the times when my patients tell me "I'm feeling great!" or "You're a godsend!"...and the times when my patients decide to discontinue care for one reason or another. She sat there quietly, taking it all in...after which she said calmly, "You a good Daddy!" Again, she reminds me of why I do what I do.

It's Halloween today at Hanah's preschool! She dressed up as a Hello Kitty princess. The dress was a little big, but she looked as cute as ever! She was really excited to dress up. James still hasn't picked out his costume yet, hopefully he'll find something tommorow. I too need to decide on something for this weekend as well. No time to look for costumes. I'll have to try to put something together.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

Didn't know James was so smart

Had a parent teacher conference with James' teacher today. Apparently he tested pretty well on the math and reading aptitude tests. He scored in the 99.999% for both! It was actually off the charts for math and he tested at the 5th grade level for reading. I don't know what to do with him...they are trying different things at school to challenge him. I appreciate all the efforts that his teacher is making.

Hopefully by next year we'll be able to get him into an accelerated program or something. She said that he does act up in class from time to time, but we are taking about James here. That much can be expected.

They had a substitute last week for a few days and apparently the class acted up. James did make it a point to go up to Mrs. Murray when she got back and apologized for his behavior. He can be so sweet sometimes.

Taking Hanah to preschool now. We are a tad bit early...but oh well. Today should be a good day:)

I'm rockin' the suburbs!!!

Can I get a little help here

The answer of course is "yes"! My parents came into town this weekend. They went to see the opera "Faust" on Friday. Since when did they become so cultured?!? Making the jump from Nascar to the opera is quite a leap! I kid...I kid...I love my parents. They've always been there for me. Through thick and thin. I worked all weekend and they watched the kids for me. They even did the laundry and cleaned the house for me:)

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down...

Double whammy!!!

Anyways, won't let it phase me. Gonna be a great day!

Like I was saying, my family has helped me out tons in the past year. I just wanted to thank them and tell them how much I love them. Looking at the patient schedule this morning...looks like it's gonna be a slow one today.

Great. Just what I need. More time to think! Lol!

James lost another tooth this past week. The tooth fairy left him 5 dollars!!! What?!? And i thought we were in the middle of a resession?!?

What's your favorite color

Don't make it so obviuos Hanah! Friday morning. Wet. Neither of us are having a good hair day. On a good note, I slept pretty well last night. Definitely need more quality sleep. I think I'll start exercising about an hour before bed from now on. I'm feeling pretty good on the physical front since I started working at APMT. I've lost about 25 pounds and I feel stronger. Still would like to lose another 15 or so. Gonna start training for a triathlon this winter. The doc I work for is into them and I think it would be a good form of motivation. It's time to stop replaying the glory days in my mind and start creating them!

Why is is that the baristas at Starbucks make it a point to correct you when you order something incorrectly? I order a mocha grande she retorts back, "a grande mocha?" Um...no I want a mocha grande! All in jest of course. I have no room in my life to stress over such trivial things. Just think it's funny.

4...3...2...1, I'm letting you go.

Who's been sleeping in my bed

I got a visit from the cuddle bug this morning. Depending upon how well I slept and the time at which the bug decides to infiltrate my personal domain, it can more often than not be a welcome encounter.

This morning was just the case. I had left my window cracked open all night, so this particular morning a cuddle bug is just what the doctor ordered. Hanah will muffle out of her still slumbering lips, "daddy...!" when I squeeze her too hard or try to roll her over...

Oh no! The beast has awoken! It's a good thing because it's picture day and daddy's gonna need some extra time to try and fix Hanah's hair. I hear James getting out of the shower now. Time to get moving. It's raining outside. Should be a good day.

Shoes and socks

Well...I knew that my job was rough on the body. Many chiropractors develop arthritis in the wrists after practicing for about 10 years. However, I was surprised to see how rough it was on my shoes! I bought some new running shoes back when I started at APMT a few months back. And allready I've worn them out!

My Saucony running shoes had been worn out without even getting a few miles logged on them. Another interesting finding was the hole that had developed on the lateral side of my right shoe.

After some thought as to how this could have happened, I realized that there was a certain adjustment that I perform with a lot of my patients that places my right foot on the carpet just where the hole had developed! I've got to rethink my ergonomics or stock up on running shoes!

On another note, James woke me up at 4AM with some leg pain. Was eventually able to get him to sleep by 5 and tried to get a couple of more hours of sleep myself. Hanah this morning finally decided that she CAN put her socks on by herself. Finally!

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday! Speaking of Tuesday, it really is a lame kinda day, huh. I mean Monday is Monday, enough said. Wednesday is hump day, signifying the start of the latter end of the week which is somewhat pleasant. Thursday is almost Friday and Friday is...well, you get the point. We should come up with a name for Tuesday! Any ideas? Post them in the comments below. Again, have a wonderful day! (edit: I realized just now that it's Wednesday! Lol!)

Fall is here

Every year with the changing of the leaves I'm am caused to contemplate my own life's changes. The Japanese actually have a word for the "changing of the leaves", kouyou.

Much like the transition of the seasons, my life is a continuing transitional process full of ups and downs, but no matter what, I move forward. I must for the sake of my children. James and Hanah mean so much to me. They are the constant in my life. They keep me grounded. Hanah lately has persisted in telling me on numerous occasions, "you're a good daddy!" Is it possible that this three year old girl can sense her father's frustrations, his pain...the wear that his constant striving to make a life for his family takes on him physically and mentally? Some mornings, as of late, I wake with her beside me in bed, her big Bambi eyes wide open, staring at me in a contemplative manner; as if she's trying to figure me out. She just smiles and says, "I love you. You a good daddy."

That is what drives me...the love of my children. As I continue to work hard at making a living for my family, I must always remember to make time for the two most important people in the world. They deserve no less from their father.

As I step outside today, I'm going to look up, breathe in deep, and remember why it is I live. Today is going to be as good a day as I make it.
